Missions: Our Commitment To God’s Kingdom

We believe God is at work in Shreveport, LA, but we also know He is at work around the globe. The church does not exist to further its own mission, but to be part of God’s. That means focusing attention and resources locally and abroad.

History

From the beginning, Southern Hills has worked to further the Kingdom of God by supporting foreign missions. The longest-supported work was in Buenos Aires, Argentina (1972-2002). Two missions couples, Jake and Marilyn Vincent and later Jay and Cathy Abels were supported there.

Church Planting: Musanze, Rwanda

At present, our main support goes to Murphy and Christine Crowson. They are part of a team that was incredibly fruitful in working among the Watchi people of Togo, west Africa, successfully planting dozens of native churches. In 2008, they left Togo, leaving the churches in the hands of God and mature, local leaders.

In January 2009, they (and other team members) began an exciting new work of planting and maturing churches in Musanze, Rwanda, central Africa. We are proud to partner with them in this effort.

Global Justice

In 2009, Southern Hills was recognized as an official “Justice Church” by International Justice Mission. IJM is a Christian human-rights agency that operates in countries all over the world to rescue victims of individual human rights abuse, working to combat human trafficking, forced labor slavery, illegal detention, unprosecuted rape, police brutality and illegal land seizure.

Based on referrals of abuse received from relief and development organizations, IJM conducts professional investigations of the abuses and mobilizes intervention on behalf of the victims. The four-fold purpose of IJM is victim relief, perpetrator accountability, structural prevention and victim aftercare.

IJM was founded by Gary Haugen who, in 1994, was the director of the United Nations genocide investigation in Rwanda.

We are proud to support their important work. For more, www.ijm.org
