Transformation
Ministry | Community | Worship
The saying goes that “the only constant in life is change.” If that’s true, then why is it that most of the people you know seem to never change at all?
You talk with a friend whom you haven’t seen in years. You ask, “So how are you? What’s going on?” There’s a pause. They reply, “Oh, I’m good…good…same as always I guess.”
The truth is that most people in life are stuck, unable to change. If you had a time machine, you’d see that over time, most of us look different but continue to act the same. The boss who was angry in 1988 is angry in 2008. The kid who felt insecure as a teen grew up and still feels insecure. The people who were struggling with this or that are still struggling with this or that.
Why?
Because willpower alone is not enough.
Even if you buy a book that tells you otherwise.
The only force in the world that is powerful enough to change the human heart is the love of God, poured out in Jesus Christ.
Scripture says that God is able to do “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine” and that his awesome power is “at work within us.” In other words, God is in the transformation business. It’s his passion. It’s his specialty.
The Bible is full of examples. On almost every page, you see God working with enemies, frauds, sinners, and nobodies and transforming them into friends, examples, disciples, and leaders.
Do you have some rough edges? God won’t be surprised.
Neither will we. In fact, we believe the reason the church exists is to encourage transformation. This is the heart of Christian faith: because of Jesus’ death and resurrection you and I get the chance to live a new life. And not just in heaven. In the here and now, day by day.
